Upper Canada College saw a 13 per cent increase in applications for its 2018 day program, continuing a positive five-year trend of year-over-year increases.
There’s no doubt it’s a good sign, but the school is by no means resting on its laurels or taking the goodwill for granted.
“We can’t lose sight of the fact that this is an incredibly competitive market,” says David McBride, Vice-Principal of Enrolment Management. “It’s exciting that so many Toronto families are choosing independent school education for their children, but the number of excellent schools in the GTA is also extraordinary.”
With day applications now closed and interviews and assessments in full swing, recruitment efforts continue for boarding. McBride has already spent three weeks travelling to other cities and countries looking for the best boys the world has to offer. He met Old Boys and friends of the College who’ve actively participated in the recruitment process by connecting him to promising candidates in China, Hong Kong, Mexico and Vietnam — to name some of the countries he visited in the fall.
Boarding applications for 2018 entry will be accepted through April. If you know of a great boy who would be a good fit for UCC, the school wants to hear from you. Contact David McBride at firstname.lastname@example.org or use the Old Boy Referral Form.
